BREC to celebrate Black History Month with special event

The Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge, also known as BREC, and Metro Councilwoman Erika Green will celebrate Black History Month with a free event at the Independence Park Theatre, Thursday, February 21st. 

The event is called “Present Day History: Channeling the Past, Changing the Narrative.” The goal is to celebrate moments of Black History inspired by Baton Rouge. The guest speaker will be Mr. Mychal Bell of the Jena 6. This special event will also include dance, literary and musical performances and local art. Four local lawyers will also be honored with the Narrative Changers Leadership Award. 

The Independence Park Theatre is located at 7800 Independence Blvd., and the event will run from 6:30-8:30 P.M. 

This event is open to the public.
