Tailgaters prepare for LSU’s first home football game of the season

News

NOW PLAYING

You know it is LSU Football season when you see pop-up tents on the side of the roadways and lots full of RVs.

Leslie Burl is the leader of a group of tailgaters called Krewe of Misfit Tigers.

“I’m the breakfast king. I cook breakfast sandwiches, and everybody else cooks something else. We try to coordinate every weekend what everybody cooks,” said Burl.

This year, the party started a little earlier.

“We got an email at like 4:45 yesterday afternoon telling us that we could come 7:00 Thursday night,” explained Burl. We scrambled. We still had to do shopping and everything. I live close. I live in Central. So, it wasn’t bad for me.”

Same goes for tailgater Scott Cusimano and his team.

“Last night, we got here about 7:00. They let us in. This is a new lot for us. We used to be in the lot next door. They moved us over here. So, they’re letting us in the Thursday night before now because it gets us off the road,” said Cusimano.

For these tailgaters, this is more than just about football. It is about family.

“People go overboard. We love to share with each other. Food goes from RV to RV. You know, it’s a great comradery. It’s a great culture that just seems to get better each year,” explained Cusimano.

“It’s all the people we’ve met over the years. We’ve all become very good friends, and then we get to travel together. We all hook up, and it’s like one big extended family,” said Darwin Pittman, a tailgater.

As for game day preparations, officials are encouraging fans to carpool. There will also be some street closures. For more information on that, click here
