The Mardi Gras festivities continued Sunday morning as Downtown Baton Rouge was taken over by some furry, little friends!

The 18th annual CAAWS Mystic Krewe of Mutts parade rolled through, and dogs of all shapes and sizes, and their owners came out and dressed up. this year’s theme was a little different. it honored those who helped with rescue and recovery during the August flooding.

This year, you know, we’ve had a lot of people affected by the flood in August, and a lot of volunteers, including myself. So, we wanted to acknowledge everyone who’s helped raise the city and get it back on its feet,” said Libby Haydel, the event coordinator.

Our own Carla Pesono judged the costume contest along with her dog Teddy.

The Capital Area Animal Welfare Society has been serving Baton Rouge since 1979. The non-profit commits itself to the well-being of animals in the capital city.
