For some, the only thing left are the piles of trash that used to be people’s businesses.
Once the water finally went down, they were able to return and see for themselves.
No one was ready for what they were going to see.
Donna Secrest has been an employee of the Quick and Handy Cleaners for 17 years.
She said that her heart broke when she saw what condition the cleaners was in after the flood.
She said, “I didn’t think it would be this bad. I came down yesterday for the first time to get some stuff and I was just shocked”.
Right next door at Kristina Nails, the owner says that everything he had was destroyed.
They just opened their doors last week and now everything is gone.
The owner of Cheap iPhone Repairs, Charles Looney, says that he doesn’t have flood insurance and he is not sure what the future holds, but he feels that he still has a service to provide to the public.
So he rented a mobile office and expects to be open by Monday.
His shop will do phone and tablet repairs for half off.
He said, “People need their phones. They need to reach their families. I shook off the pain the day it happened and now it’s time to move forward instead of standing still”.
Everyone of these people do not have flood insurance.
They say it’s because it has never flooded here.
They all said that they are taking it one step at a time and right now, the first step is to pick up the pieces.
