Ascension Parish warning residents of continued flooding threat

Ascension Parish leaders released new information Tuesday morning to identify major areas of concern caused by rising flood waters

Weather service officials report high levels of water in flooded area will remain over the next several days into late this week. Pumping operations at the Marvin Braud pumping station are temporarily suspended to remove debris that could cause major mechanical damage.

Parish officials warn residents in the low lying areas near Bayou Narcisse, Bayou Francois, New River Canal or Black Bayou are at risk for flooding. People are encouraged to voluntarily evacuate.

Officials anticipate a major impact to the Sorrento area due to high water overtopping Airline Highway and the railroad tracks and inundating the Town of Sorrento. It has been encouraged by Town Mayor Mike Lambert and the unified command for residents of Sorrento to prepare to be impacted in the next 6-8 hours. A voluntary evacuation is in place for the town of Sorrento.

A warning has also been issued to residents of the Ridge Road area. A voluntary evacuation is in place for this area.

If you are in your home and are surrounded by water but have not flooded, prepare to remain for several days. If you do not have enough food and water to last through the week, it is recommend you contact the EOC at 225-621-8360 to get out of the location.
