GULF SHORES, Ala. (WIAT) — If you’re thinking about heading south to Alabama’s beaches, one company wants to make it easier for you to protect yourself from the sun. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama has teamed up with the city of Gulf Shores to provide free sunscreen on the beach.
Phase one of the project will start this summer. Ten sunscreen dispensers will be installed at public beach access points in gulf shores.
Phase two of the project plans to install dispensers in city parks and sports complexes.
City leaders say the initiative is aimed at protecting residents and visitors from the effects of sun exposure, most notably skin cancer.
