The Storm Prediction Center has placed East Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes under an enhanced risk for severe weather this afternoon through the evening. This is ahead of a strong cold front that will push through the state late on Monday.

Throughout the day, we’ll see showers, so make sure to grab the rain gear before leaving home. The line of storms will pass in the evening. This could effect commutes, so be sure to drive with caution.

The main threats are damaging winds gusts, hail, a possible tornado or two, and heavy rain. Wind gusts may exceed 60 mph. This can lead to fallen trees and minor structural damage. Hail may exceed 1″ in diameter. An isolated tornado or two is possible as well. Some areas may see heavy rain today, which could lead to flooding in low lying places and areas with poor flood drainage. Roads could become flooded as well, and if you encounter a flooded area, turn around immediately.
Be sure to stay weather aware. Have more than one way of receiving alerts. Designate a safe space for shelter if it becomes necessary. Immediately take shelter if a warning is issued for your area.
