UPDATE:
There is some good news and bad news for local commuters on Wednesday morning.
The good news is that I-10 East at Highland is back open.
The bad news is that traffic is still backed up and will take some time to clear out.
All lanes are open on I-10 East at Highland Road. Congestion has reached approximately two miles in length.

It has been a rough morning for some commuters in the area.
I-10 East past Highland Rd. is closed, according to DOTD.
I-10 East remains closed at Highland Road due to an accident. Congestion is approaching two miles.

Louisiana State Police say, “I-10 eastbound at LA Hwy 42 ( Highland Road) is currently closed due to a multiple vehicle crash. Troopers are diverting I-10 eastbound traffic onto the Highland Road exit and then back onto I-10 eastbound via the Highland Road entrance ramp. Please avoid the area if possible.”
Drivers who use this route should find an another way to go in the near future or plan for a longer commute on Wednesday.
