The Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge has postponed the community forum meeting for the Renewable Energy Park project originally scheduled tonight. The meeting will now take place on Tuesday, April 30 from 6-8 p.m. at Belaire Magnet High School, 12121 Tams Drive.
BREC Communications Director, Chad Brewer cited unexpected weather conditions and school closures as the reason for the cancellation.
The announcement was also made on the official Facebook page for Belaire Magnet High School.
Belaire Magnet High School students, along with BREC’s Planning and Engineering Department are in preliminary stages for Renewable Energy Park. The new park will be located within the existing Tams Drive Park located at 11600 Tams Dr., between South Choctaw Dr. and Florida Blvd. Tams Drive Park currently includes a lighted multi-purpose court, indoor basketball court, playground and soccer field, according to the BREC website.
The meeting on April 30 is intended to give the community a platform to discuss ideas and brainstorm on what ideas you would like to see incorporated into the new park design. The forum will include a presentation on the current state of the park and an overall introduction to the project.
The final presentation for the new park design will be presented on May 23 at 5 p.m. at the BREC Main Offices. If approved, officials say the improvements could begin as early as 2020.
Those interested in receiving more information about the project should contact the Belaire Magnet High School Assistant Principal John Hayman, at jhayman@ebrschools.org.
