New Orleans police said a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy was shot Tuesday morning in the Lower Ninth Ward.
The shooting was reported at 6:10 a.m. in the 5300 block of Douglas St.
Police said the deputy, who was not identified, was shot at the scene. The deputy was taken to University Medical Center.
Officials said the deputy was working with a DEA task force, serving a warrant, when they were shot.
The task force included law enforcement personnel from the New Orleans Police Department, Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office and the JPSO.
The deputy was shot in the upper body — near the neck, officials said. Their condition wasn’t available.
WDSU News crews witnessed two men in custody at the scene. One person, who was called a suspect in the investigation, was taken into custody.
