BREC says that change is coming to the Baton Rouge Zoo.
There is no official plan, but BREC commissioners were updated on the progress to transform the zoo Wednesday night.
Earlier this year the nonprofit group, “Friends of the Baton Rouge Zoo” commissioned a study on how they could update the 45 year old zoo.
The estimated price tag for the new zoo is $110 million.
BREC representatives say that the goal is to increase traffic to the zoo, which averages around 250,000 visitors a year.
Consultants are beginning to look into the possibility of rebuilding on the current property or moving the zoo all together.
Some have voiced concerns about the impact to the community if the zoo moves.
BREC representatives say that if they decide to move the zoo, both properties will be developed into something great.
BREC hopes to present possible locations in February.
