In less than 12 hours, State Police investigated two deadly crashes, but what do they have in common? In both crashes, drivers weren’t wearing their seatbelts.

The first crash happened Friday around 9:30 P.M., on LA Highway 431 north of US Highway 61 in Ascension Parish. State police say 31-year-old Daniel Walker of Sorrento was driving his 2013 Chevy Cruze, failed to turn, ran off the road into a ditch, then the car ramped off of a driveway before it hit a tree.

Walker was unrestrained, ejected from this car and later died from his injuries. It is unknown if impairment is a factor at this time, but a toxicology sample was taken.

The second crash happened Saturday around 4:30 A.M. on US Highway 190 west of LA Highway 413 in Pointe Coupee Parish. Landon Giordano, 21, of Lakeland was driving his 2007 Ford Focus westbound down the highway, while 24-year-old Laten Seymor of Pride was traveling eastbound. State Police say Giordano’s car crossed the center line and struck Seymour’s 2017 Jeep Cherokee head-on.

Giordano wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and died from his injuries. Seymour was restrained and received moderate injuries. It is unknown if impairment is a factor in this crash. Toxicology samples will be taken from both drivers.
