GBR Food Bank gets 23 tons of food donated by Red Gold

Twenty-three tons of food, just what the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank needs after it lost a lot of its stock during the Flood of 2016.

“We lost about 575,000 pounds of food in the flooding. That was everything that was at floor level, everything in the freezer and the cooler. So it was a pretty devastating impact on us,” said Mike Manning, CEO and president of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.

Manning said things are getting back to normal, slowly, thanks to the community and donations like this one from Red Gold Tomatoes.

“They helped in Katrina. They sent food to South Carolina during the flooding last year. When they saw this tremendous need that is still in Baton Rouge and the devastating flood that you all suffered a few weeks back, they just wanted to help,” said Nan Kelly, a Red Gold Tomatoes representative.

“It signifies the partnerships that we have with food companies across the country through Feeding America, and the difference that they can make nationally. Just with a little donation, we can take a little donation and spread it so far because there is so much need all across the country, but especially here in light of the disaster,” concluded Manning.

In addition to this donation, Red Gold Tomatoes will donate one meal to someone in need for every one of its products sold during the month of October.
