BATON ROUGE, La. – Southern men’s basketball hosted Prairie View A&M to end their regular season, and the Jaguars jumped out to a 20-8 lead near the halfway mark of the first half. However, the Panthers began picked up the pace and went into half-time down just 33-31.
Southern shot 48.16% from the field in the first half, but Prairie View drew even with 50% through the first 20 minutes. In the second half, the Panthers offense continued upward, shooting around 55% for the second period, and but Jaguars went in the opposite direction with a 13-30 second half performance.
Southern did enough to force overtime though, and the Jaguars held the Panthers to just one field goal in the extra period. Southern beat Prairie View 89-80 in OT, and with their tenth seven straight win, the Jaguars now are second in the SWAC rankings.
