Many people who live in the capital area woke up to an emergency alert on their phones Thursday morning, including Carl Carney, a barber who co-owns Pro Cuts Hair Salon on Hooper Rd. in North Baton Rouge.
“My thoughts were instantly like ‘Is this happening again?'” said Carney.
A flash flood warning took effect in East Baton Rouge Parish, and intersections, like Hooper Rd. at Foster Rd., were blocked off because of high water, but dealing with flooding is nothing new for Carney.
“A normal day, come to work, and I see the water rising. I had to get out before it got any higher. All surrounding us was flooded from this way, and this way. So I got out before it actually got up too high,” explained Carney.
His shop took on six feet of water during the Flood of 2016. Carney said they just opened back up after the devastation, but the same does not go for all the stores at the Greenwood Village Shopping Center.
“The Advanced Auto, they won’t come back,” said Carney.
However, Carney made it through with his humor and his faith.
“My faith is strong, just prayer first,” said Carney.
Carney said his business has been back open for almost a month now, and the recovery process is far from over.
