Community Coffee awards 11 schools for the 28th annual Cash for Schools celebration

One school, after another, after another received a check for their hard work, especially during a hard time for our community after the August flooding.

“Many families were and still are affected, certainly our school system was and a lot of your facilities were, without a doubt. We were all touched by it in some way. So in no greater time is this money needed, and we look forward to you putting them to good use,” said Matt Saurage, president of Community Coffee Company.

More than $321,000 were earned all by collecting these proofs of purchase from Community Coffee items. Saurage said nearly 800 schools participated in this year’s cash for schools programs across the region.

“796 schools turned in about 3.3 million proofs of purchase of Community products,” explained Saurage.

Saurage joined together with his staff, Louisiana State Teacher of the Year Joni Smith and the first-ever H. Norman Saurage Service Award Recipient Janet Lathrop for this celebration. Community Coffee has been doing this for 28 years and counting.

“Some realized that you could take this small piece of paper, and you could turn it in through your service, through your efforts. You could turn it in to something big,” said Lathrop.

St. Thomas More and Zachary Elementary were among the 11 recipients Thursday.
