Dozens of residents in the capital area called for non-violence and unity at a rally and march Sunday afternoon.

The Elm Grove Baptist Church held its annual “Stop the Violence” Community March and Rally. Citizens from all over the capital city marched through part of the 70802 area and the rain to promote peace and healing. Organizers said that zip code has experienced everything from burglary to murder, and the crime needs to stop.

“My slogan is my struggle and  lead me to my destiny. I live by that, and I struggled to do all the wrong and everything I did was wrong that I can think of, and then my destiny is to make sure kids don’t do the same thing that I have done,” said Burnell Williams.

We are told this event has been going on for three years. Elected officials, including the East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome and District Attorney Hillar Moore, were in attendance.
