Companies making large donations to recovery effort

Several companies are stepping in to help flood victims with donations to organizations helping with relief efforts in south Louisiana.

The Rite Aid Foundation announced Monday they would give $50,000 to the American Red Cross Louisiana Capital Area to assist those affected by the historic flooding in south Louisiana.

“One hearts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this weekend’s devastating rainfall and the flooding that followed,” said Ken Martindale, Rite Aid CEO of stores, president of Rite Aid Corporation and president of The Rite Aid Foundation. “As cleanup begins and rebuilding gets underway, we hope that our donation to the American Red Cross helps make it just a little easier for those who have been impacted the most.”

Walmart promised $500,000 through monetary and in-kind donations to those affected by the floods. The company stated they are working with Salvation Army, American Red Cross and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank to help those in need. Part of those donations are expected to be a million bottle of water in the coming days.

“We are deeply saddened by the devastating floods in Louisiana and the catastrophic effect it’s having on our associates and members of the community,” said, Mark Cooper, Senior Director of Emergency Management, Walmart. “We are fully committed to the relief efforts and will continue to work closely with local officials to do everything we can.”

Lowes also donated $500,000 to the American Red Cross.

“It’s devastating to see the people of Louisiana, including many of our own employees, once again facing an historic flood event,” said James Frison, Lowe’s director of community relations. “As families begin the difficult recovery process, we want them to know Lowe’s will work closely with the Red Cross and our other partners to support them every step of the way.”

Anheuser-Busch is delivering five truckloads – or more than 250,000 cans – of safe, clean drinking water to flood victims in central Louisiana in response to an urgent request from the American Red Cross.  The company is deploying its logistics network to fast-track five truckloads of water to areas hit hardest by the floods.

“Throughout the year we periodically pause production at our brewery to can drinking water so we are ready to help communities in times of disaster,” said Sarah Schilling, Sr. Brewmaster of Anheuser-Busch’s Cartersville brewery. “We are humbled to provide this water to those in need.”

Home Depot has donated relief grants totaling $700,000 to help with the flood relief efforts.

“Although our local stores have been providing immediate assistance, we’re committed to the long-term recovery of the communities impacted by this terrible tragedy,” said Shannon Gerber, executive director of The Home Depot Foundation.

Associa, a community management firm, is donating $50,000 toward helping flood victims in southern Louisiana.

“Our hearts go out to the victims of the Louisiana floods,” says Associa Cares President Andrew Fortin. “In an instant, thousands of families have found themselves facing devastating losses of home and property. We hope this assistance helps them with their immediate needs as they begin the recovery process.”
