Emergency room coming to North Baton Rouge?

“Right now, North Baton Rouge just needs to come together, stand for peace stand for what’s right…” said North Baton Rouge Resident Tyrone Thomas.

A lot rocked the north this past week, but through all the trials this community has faced, there could be a win for one of those battles.

Governor Edwards promised to get an emergency room back to North Baton Rouge is inching closer and closer. Right now, there are plans to turn this urgent care into an ER.

“I support the governor, 100% in this. Our Lady of the Lake is already there. They have the doctors there. This gives us a chance to expand it, and still bring quality health service to our citizens,” said Mayor-President of Baton Rouge Kip Holden.

The mayor said he is on board with this decision, unlike a previous plan for an ER, which he didn’t support. It was a plan to bring in a third party medical group, like Champion, which considered opening an ER at their center near the airport, but it needed support from a local medical center like Our Lady of the Lake or Baton Rouge General.

“I do support Champion trying to come into North Baton Rouge to do what they want to do,” said Thomas.

Thomas, who has supported getting an ER back to his area for a while, now has some mixed feelings about it all.

“We don’t even appreciate the Lake even wanting to come to North Baton Rouge because the Lady of the Lake didn’t have time to come to the people of North Baton Rouge, even when Baton Rouge General Emergency Room closed down,” said Thomas. “So my only take is that we prefer another emergency room to come to North Baton Rouge.”

Right now, there is no set date because they are still in the discussion phase, but Local 33 and Fox 44 will keep you posted.
