Baton Rouge, LA– On Wednesday, Sept. 9, Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) held a graduation ceremony for 14 welding students who completed Phase II of the North Baton Rouge Industrial Training Initiative (NBRITI). The ceremony was held at the college’s Acadian Campus located at 3250 N. Acadian Thruway, Baton Rouge, LA.

All 14 students passed an independently scored American Welding Society (AWS) structural welding certification test for vertical and overhead welding techniques. These skills are vital to help meet the increasing industrial workforce needs of Louisiana.

“ExxonMobil is a proud partner in the North Baton Rouge Industrial Training Initiative. These students are graduating with the skills and training needed to begin successful welding careers in our industry,” said Mark Northcutt, ExxonMobil Baton Rouge Refinery Manager.

The NBRITI program, developed and funded by BRCC, began in October of 2012 with a goal of engaging area residents in a fast-tracked classroom setting and hands-on training experience. The Initiative is currently working through its contractor partners to place all of the graduates in full-time positions with their firms.

NBRITI Sponsoring Partners include: Baton Rouge Community College, ExxonMobil, Herb and Maxine Jacobs Foundation, Formosa Plastics, ISC, Turner Industries, Performance Contractors, Jacobs Engineering, Pala Group, Triad, Brock Group, Georgia Pacific, Stupp Corporation, GBRIA, Associated Builders and Contractors, Employ BR, Greater Baton Rouge Literacy Coalition, and SSA Consultants.

Phase III of the NBRITI is expected begin in January 2016. Interested applicants should call (225) 216-8239.
