Congressman Garret Graves and fellow Congressman John Mica of Florida did not have many positive things to say about FEMA’s response to our floods.
In a news conference Monday morning both congressmen said FEMA is coming up short, and offered their thoughts on what needs to be done to fix it.
Graves invited Mica to tour the devastation across southern Louisiana over the weekend.
Mica is a Subcommittee Chairman on the US House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which has jurisdiction over FEMA.
He said that a major issue is that FEMA isn’t meeting the need of the people fast enough.
He said, “People are going to lose their jobs, people are going to lose their homes and we’re losing educational opportunities here. we have got to get the federal government program adjusted immediately to deal with the problem here”.
Congressman Graves is currently working on a tailored response package to help fix the identified problems, but he can’t do it alone.
He hopes to work with the White House over the next couple of days.
