As of 1 p.m. on Wednesday, a flood warning was issued until 2:45 p.m. for a handful of parishes: Northeastern Vermilion, West Central St. Martin, Northwestern Iberia Parish, Northwestern St. Mary Parish, East Central Acadia and Lafayette.
According to the National Weather Service, backwater flooding continues to affect parishes with waterways that usually drain into the swollen Amite and Comite Rivers as well as Lake Maurepas. Observations indicate water is still slowly rising in these areas. As the water slowly rises, flooding could begin to impact areas as far southeast as portions of far northern LaPlace that are generally along and around Interstate 10.
Areas of Pointe Coupee and the west bank of Iberville are also affected by backwater flooding.
