Deputy hurt in Sunday shootings released from hospital

One of the lawn enforcement officers who was shot during the Baton Rouge ambush shootings on Sunday, July 17 has been released from a local hospital.

According to a Baton Rouge General spokeswoman, East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office Deputy Bruce Simmons was discharged from their hospital on Thursday. He was escorted out of the hospital by his wife and another deputy. Staff from the hospital line the hallways.

Simmons was released from the hospital after undergoing multiple surgeries for a shattered arm. He now has a titanium rod inserted into his arm.

Simmons has served 23 years as a law enforcement officer.

Deputy Nicholas Tullier, 41, is the only remaining law enforcement officer who is hospitalized. He remains in critical condition.

In all, three officers were killed and three other were injured in the attack. The victims were identified as: Officer Montrell Jackson, 32, of Baton Rouge; Officer Matthew Gerald, 41, of Denham Springs; and Deputy Brad Garafola, 45.

Funeral services for all three officers have been announced.
