Entergy Louisiana will go solar

Entergy Louisiana approved to buy the output of a 50-megawatt solar power plant to be built in West Baton Rouge Parish, according to a news release sent out Thursday afternoon.

The plant will be built on around 560 acres of land near Port Allen, which will make it one of the largest solar facilities in the state. It will be built by LA3 West Baton Rouge, L.L.C., which is a subsidiary of Eagle Solar Group.

This solar plant is projected to create 350 jobs during the construction process and bring around $6.4 million in tax revenue to the region over the next 30 years, according to Eagle Solar.

Construction on this project is expected to get underway in mid-2019 with completion set for 2020.

“This is a win for customers of Entergy Louisiana and a win for the environment,” said Phillip May, the president and CEO of Entergy. “Our generating portfolio is among the cleanest in the nation. Entergy’s CO2 emission rate is the fourth lowest among the top 20 power producers.”

“Eagle Solar is proud to partner with Entergy Louisiana on this important project, and today’s approvel by the Louisiana Public Service Commission brings us closer to breaking ground on this meaningful solar facility,” said William Lee, CEO of Eagle Solar Group.
