FEMA warns of con men preying on flood victims

FEMA is warning residents in southern Louisiana about scam artists who are targeting flood victims.

Federal officials said scam artists are operating in the area, and residents should watch out for people soliciting, promising money, fake charities and “shady” contractors.

FEMA reminds the public their agency and the state never charge or accept payment for disaster-related help.

Anyone suspecting fraud should call the Louisiana Attorney General’s consumer protection hotline at 800-351-4889.
