Gov. Edwards honors Purple Heart veterans

Sunday is National Purple Heart Day and Louisiana Purple Heart Day as well. So Sunday evening, Governor John Bel Edwards wanted to take time to honor those veterans.

The governor welcomed Purple Heart recipients into the governor’s mansion. The Purple Heart is one of the most prestigious military awards honoring those who were wounded or killed while serving in the military.

“You know, we, in our society and in our contemporary society in the United States, we talk about heroes all the time. We attached that term to singers and to actors and to ball players, and some of them we might want to admire and emulate, and some of them we might not, but very few of them are legitimate heroes,” said Governor Edwards. “You know, you are, so I just want to thank you so much for your service.”
