How businesses will make SC fans feel at home

“Geaux Gamecocks!” Most tiger fans are not used to seeing billboards like that before an SEC matchup.

Lamar Advertising decided to put up eight different billboards around the capital area in honor of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. It has been a tough time for the community after Hurricane Joaquin left devastating floods there.

“The thought behind all of this was, we know what it’s like. We know what they’re going through, and they need relief. They just need relief, and if this helps, great,” said Thomas Teepell, the chief marketing officers at Lamar. “Columbia, South Carolina, that’s one of our offices, and we have people all over the state of South Carolina. They’re like family. We know the devastation, and we know the misery those people are going through.”

Teepell said they came up with different ideas to show support, but this one was the most fitting.

“Somebody came up with the idea of why don’t we put up some digital boards and just make them feel at home,” Teepell explained.

That is exactly what Pastime Owner Randy Wesley wants to do too.

“With all of the emotional stress they’re going through, the financial stress they’re going through and everything else, we thought we would offer them a welcome to Baton Rouge by offering half-price meals for every South Carolina fan,” Wesley explained.

That’s right, all day Saturday, Pastime will offer half-priced meals to SC fans, and help them and tiger fans get to and from the game.

“This time we’re going to have 10 buses because this is our only bus service running for this game. That will give us the capacity of about 430 riders, and tickets will go on sale at 10 AM,” Wesley said. “We really sympathize with South Carolina, especially all of the flooding that happens routinely down in the south. We know how hard it is for them to just uproot at the last minute.”

“Saturday afternoon, two great football teams will have the opportunity to play,” Teepell said. “If we can make South Carolina feel a little more like it’s their home game, then the better that will be.”
