Three Louisiana state legislators were recognized recently for their contributions to Louisiana State Police. Representatives Barry Ivey and Katrina Jackson were honored as the 2015 Legislators of the Year. Representative Ivey represents House District 65 in Central and Representative Jackson represents House District 16 in Monroe. Both legislators were recognized for their support of bills during the 2014 and 2015 legislative sessions that had a tremendous impact on the welfare of Louisiana State Troopers.
Representative Jeffery “Jeff” Arnold was given a Special Recognition award for his long term support of LSP during his fourteen-years as a State Representative, representing House District 102 in Algiers. The LSTA felt it appropriate to recognize his longstanding support of public safety before his third and final term ends in January of 2016.
In conferring the awards, LSTA President Stephen Lafargue noted how fortunate State Police has been to have supporters like Ivey, Jackson and Arnold in their corner during the difficult economic times that they have encountered in recent years. “Without the aid of legislators like Representatives Ivey, Jackson, and Arnold, Louisiana State Police would most certainly continue to be behind the curve in terms of pay and benefits for its officers when compared to other law enforcement agencies across our state and region.”
The awards were presented on August 8, 2015 at the Louisiana State Troopers Association annual convention held this year in Baton Rouge.
