Louisiana man exonerated for rape after 37 years stuns on America’s Got Talent

BATON ROUGE, La. (WDSU) — Get ready for a powerful season of America’s Got Talent.

Among the contestants this season is a Louisiana man who was wrongly incarcerated for 37 years at Angola.

Archie Williams was convicted of a 1982 rape and stabbing of a white woman in her home.

He was sentenced to life and 80 years without the possibility of parole or probation.

At the trial, none of the fingerprints at the scene matched his.

Williams was exonerated when those fingerprints were matched against the national database years later thanks to the Innocence Project.

The fingerprints matched those of a confessed serial rapist.

Williams said when he was faced with dark times, the one thing he would do was pray and sing.

Williams full performance of “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” on America’s Got Talent can be seen here.

Spoiler alert: One of the judges cried!
