Right now, budget cuts are still looming over our state colleges and universities with $55 million dollars at stake.

Louisiana State University’s president F. King Alexander released an update to the Tiger community this week addressing the passage of House Bill 1, our state’s budget.

Alexander said even though it looks like $55 million dollars will get cut across the board, it’s not clear how much of a hit LSU will get. The president continued to say he is hopeful things could change, so the cuts won’t be as much of a burden, but he is calling out for support.

In a statement, Alexander said in part,  “We are in for another bumpy few weeks… your vocal support and willingness to educate your legislators was and will continue to be critical for the duration of the second special session…”

Along with higher education cuts, more than $150 million will get cut from the TOPS Scholarship Program, if Governor Edwards signs the bill into law.
