Dozens of LSU students came together at the bell tower Thursday, not wearing purple and gold, but black and gold.
The students held a rally for the University of Missouri amid racial tensions and allegations, that university officials mishandled a string of racial incidents. Some attendees said even though they bleed purple and gold, they want MIZZOU students to know LSU supports them.
“For this, in and of itself, it took us stepping outside of ourselves and stepping outside of our comfort zone and what we’re used to, and putting on black and gold to let them know that we understand that it’s not always easy to do what’s right or to do what’s necessary, but it absolutely is necessary,” Cimajie Best said.
“You see all these things and you get concerned, so we wanted to do something to show our support, and also to show support like people around the country care,” John Lewis said. “They see what is going on, and that even if people aren’t covering it necessarily, we see what’s going on ,and we wish we could support, and we want to do whatever we can to help.”
The students also prayed and held a moment of silence.
