New York man runs to honor BR law enforcement officers

A New Yorker made his way to Baton Rouge Wednesday to show his support for our law enforcement and the fallen heroes who passed away in our city.

Billy Richards ran from the Baton Rouge Police Department Headquarters to the B-Quik on Airline and back carrying an American flag. This is part of his “Thank the Police Tour,” where Richards goes from city to city all in honor of our men and women in blue.

“Just to show that the community still supports them and everything. So I’ve been going from town to town, and I’ve been running through the town with the American flag,” said Richards. “When I get done with the run, I will fold the American flag up and give it to the police department to show gratitude along with a thank you card.”

“Well it’s overwhelming. The community as a whole has been so supportive,” said BRPD Deputy Chief David Hamilton. “For an individual like this to come from out of town to show this type of support and show this type of self discipline it takes to come out and help a community with his volunteerism, it means a lot to all of us, as the officers and the families during this healing process.”

Richards stopped in New York City, Baltimore, Philadelphia and Hattiesburg before coming to the Capital City to name a few. His next stop is Dallas.
