This Christmas Eve is a fairly quiet one at the Baton Rouge Metro Airport. Officials said the day before Christmas Eve tends to be the busiest, but even though it’s slow, some travelers have to deal with other issues.
“You just got to be patient,” said Shane Debetaz.
Debetaz and his wife are waiting for their son to get home from Atlanta.
“He got held up in Atlanta because of bad weather. He’s behind about two hours. He was supposed to be here at 9:00 this morning,” Debetaz said.
Most of the flights are on time, except for those going to and coming from Atlanta because of the severe weather there. Flight delays are ranging from one to four hours.
“We saw the weather was going to be bad over there, so we kind of figured we’d have trouble,” Debetaz explained. “We’re just waiting for him to get here safely.”
The southeast has seen its share of bad weather lately, with deadly tornadoes sweeping through parts of Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee.
Traveler Stephen Mclarn said he is lucky he doesn’t have to deal with delays this year, as he heads to Dallas.
“No, not at all,” Dallas said. “I have, Dallas going to Oklahoma, but not here.”
As of this morning, nearly 600 flights have been canceled nationwide, and more than 2,000 delayed, according to an NBC News report.
