One serving, after another, after another…
“So far, we have sold over 700 pastalaya dinners,” said Chief David McDavid of the Zachary Police Department.
It is all for a great cause. An outpouring of support for Baton Rouge Police Officer Rickey Faust here in Zachary, after tragedy struck. Faust was involved in a single-vehicle crash back in March while responding to a call.
“We’re doing a benefit for him and his family to help in recovery and help them with any expenses they have while they’re traveling back and forth between here at Houston, and just help his family so he can recover and get back to work,” said Chief McDavid.
The Zachary Police Department partnered with the Zachary Fire Department to help give back to the former ZPD officer and his family.
“I understand, right now, that he’s going to be transferred to Houston, where East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputy Nick Tullier is, to get some more care, and hopefully he can come to heal. I know he’s still on a trach, and they’re going to transport him over there pretty soon,” explained McDavid.
Hundreds upon hundreds of plates were sold for an $8 donation each. Officer Faust’s aunt, Rita Davis, couldn’t be more grateful.
“It’s just so amazing. I even heard that they have a lemonade stand going up for him today on Main Street. So, this little girl is selling lemonade to raise money for Rickey. God has some wonderful people. So, we just thank God for what’s going on,” said Davis.
We are told pastalaya plates were sold out within 15 minutes. Officer Faust is currently in ICU after undergoing multiple surgeries.
