Scams can come via email, mail, phone calls… the list goes on and on.
Greg Guilbeau of Entergy Louisiana said right now, Entergy customers need to pay close attention.
“We have scammers who are calling people on the phone. They are demanding that the customer goes to a location immediately and pay their electric bill,” Guilbeau said. “They’ll even say they have someone in route right now to cut your power off.”
Guilbeau said don’t fall for it or give any personal information.
“Entergy never calls with a live person for a potential disconnect notice,” he explained.
Entergy customers are urged to call authorities if this happens to them. Guilbeau said the easiest way to check your account is to get the Entergy app or just head online.
“You can walk in to one of our payment centers, you can generate a bank draft or by mail,” Guilbeau added.
The Baton Rouge Police Department also wants people to be aware of a scammers calling to get donations for its police union.
“Individuals calling asking for money. They were soliciting, asking for donations. The Baton Rouge Police Union, they don’t do that for that very reason,” said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely. “If you feel like you’ve been a victim, make sure you call police and make a report so we’re aware of it. We make record of it. We try to get the word out as quickly as possible to the community, so that no one else will be a victim.”
Here is why that’s so important, we learned that police arrested a Baton Rouge man for scamming food distributors. Police said he would call them, pretend to work with a hotel or restaurant, order food, then get it from delivery drivers. Corey Coleman, 46, is being charged with felony theft and attempted felony theft.
