UPDATE: More information has been released about a vehicle crashing into a crowd on the Endymion parade route. Our sister station WDSU reports, 28 people were injured, 21 of those hospitalized, after an apparent drunk driver drove a pickup truck into a crowd at the corner of Orleans and Carrollton avenues.
WDSU also reports Mayor Mitch Landrieu said the victims were taken to at least 10 hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver is in custody, and Michael Harrison, the superintendent of the New Orleans Police, says the suspect was “highly intoxicated.”
Victims ages range from 3-4 years old and upwards to adults in their 30’s and 40’s.
ORIGINAL: Many people are also heading down to New Orleans for Mardi Gras this weekend. Saturday night, a parade turned dangerous, after authorities say a vehicle ran into a crowd.
Our sister station WDSU reports it happened around 7:00 P.M. during the Endymion Parade, at the corner of Orleans and Carrollton avenues.
Right now we know more than a dozen people are injured.
