After the recent tragedies here in the Capital City, different organizations are coming together for a common cause to make a change. Join us tonight on Local 33 News and Fox 44 News tonight, I’ll have the details.

“Is this a moment or a movement?” asked Pastor Raymond Jetson of Star Hill Church. “Will we be caught in what are the realities of our current situation or will we commit ourselves to the sacrifice, hard work, and deliberate constant action that actually leads to change.”

All these community members gathered at Baton Rouge Community College all for the same reason.

“Our community has changed, but the realities that face boys and men of color in this community remain as relevant and as real as they were when we began this journey,” said Pastor Jetson.

The 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge is partnering with organizations, like Metromorphosis and the Capital Area United Way to reignite the Urban Congress.

“Urban Congress has taken an approach to identify areas where concerned citizens can become involved in bringing about meaningful change in our community,” said President and CEO of the Capital Area United Way George Bell.

“I want to encourage all of us to support our community and the reconvening and activities of this great program,” said the President of the 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge Michael Victorian.

Pastor Jetson said the Urban Congress focuses on seven goals, including building leadership, broadening healthcare services, and growing the graduation rates for African-American men, to name some.

“So these are the seven goals that will drive our work, not just for the next year, but for the next seven to 10 years,” concluded Pastor Jetson.

The Urban Congress will reconvene next Thursday. If you want to learn more, just head to the link below:
