Motorcyclist killed in Livingston Parish crash

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A motorcyclist was killed in a Sunday evening crash on La. Hwy. 442 in Livingston Parish.

58-year-old Jerry Viola of Independence died after a vehicle attempted to turn into a driveway and collided with Viola’s Harley-Davidson motorcycle around 5 p.m., according to the Louisiana State Police.

Viola was wearing an approved helmet at the time of the crash, but he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

The Louisiana State Police has this message for all drivers:

While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, distracted and inattentive driving
continues to be a leading cause of crashes in our state. Louisiana State Police urges all motorists
to stay alert while driving. A lapse in one’s awareness can have deadly consequences. If motorists
witness hazardous situations or possible impaired drivers, they may dial LSP (577) to be
connected to the nearest Troop to report that activity.
