Tips to Keep the Flu Away

News

NOW PLAYING

Flu activity generally peaks in the colder months, particularly in December, but doctors across Louisiana say they are already seeing early flu numbers rise and it could get a lot worse.

Last year’s flu season was the mildest in the United States in three years.

In fact, just under half of all Americans got the flu vaccine last year, but it is a new year and a new flu season.

Doctors across the nation are urging people to get vaccinated to prevent a flu outbreak, but vaccinations aren’t the only thing you can do to keep the flu away.

  • Avoid close contact with others who are sick.
  • If you happened to be sick yourself, keep your distance from others to keep from spreading germs.
  • Of course, if you are sick, you shouldn’t be out anyway.  Stay at home if you are sick.
  • Be sure to wash your hands throughout the day to help keep yourself germ free.

Remember, the flu shot is the best prevention and the earlier you get it, the earlier you are protected.
