Political Ads: Why So Negative?

As we get closer to election day, you may have noticed more negative political ads popping up on your TV and radio.

This form of digital mud-slinging has become the norm in today’s political landscape.

Most of the people we spoke with say that the “attack ads” do not affect their decision at the polls, but a local political science professor disagrees.

Professor William Arp compared the viewing of these ads to people slowing down on the road to look at wreck.

Sometimes we just can’t look away from these ads and we remember what we have seen..

He said, “Contemporary issues is not something everyone deals with day to day.   Lets face it, they work from nine to five.   When they come home the last thing they want to hear is someone pitching there credentials at them”.

He also said that most people seem to remember negative political ads than positive ones.

He stressed the importance of researching the candidates ourselves so these ads won’t cloud your judgment at the polls.
