Catholic High falls short of Division I State Title, loses to Rummel 14-10

NEW ORLEANS – In what was much of a defensive battle through three quarters, both Catholic High and Archbishop Rummel were able to score multiple times in the final 11 minutes of play.

The Bears entered the fourth quarter with a 3-0 lead, but both teams found the end zone offensively. However, Donovan Kaufman of Rummel took over the show. After Jackson Thomas led Catholic to a 10-7 lead with 3:09 left in the final quarter, Kaufman took a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown, giving the Raiders a 14-10 lead.

The Vanderbilt recruit then intercepted Thomas during Catholic’s final drive of the game, making it just the quarterback’s second interception of the season.

Rummel would go on to win 14-10, which is the Raiders’ first state title since 2013 and third championship in program history.
